OverviewAfter applying updates to the computer on which BlackBerry Enterprise Server is located, the following error message is displayed: Could not start the BlackBerry Mobile Data Service on Local Computer. Error 203: The system could not find the environment option that was entered. CauseThe issue may be caused by one of the following: ResolutionComplete the appropriate resolution for the cause. If the error still occurs after completing the resolution, follow the instructions in the Additional Information section. The JRE is not installed on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. Resolution 1 To check if the JRE is installed on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, search for Java Runtime Environment in the list of currently installed programs in the Add/Remove Programs list. If the JRE is not installed, go to the Sun Developer Network web site to download and install the correct version of the JRE. Please note the following:
An incorrect version of the JRE is installed, or the JRE has been recently updated on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. Resolution 2 To resolve this issue, complete the following steps:
The BlackBerry Enterprise Server is not pointing to the jvm.dll file. Check for the ImagePath string value in the following registry key: For BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.0: If the ImagePath string value exists, the Value data field is blank or is pointing to the JRE folder from a previous version of the JRE. For BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.1 and 5.0: Resolution 3 Warning: The following procedure involves modifying the computer registry. This can cause substantial damage to the Windows® operating system. Document and back up the registry entries prior to implementing any changes. To resolve this issue, complete the following steps:
