Customize the User Interface on the Main Screen

Exercise

Using the Screen Editor palette and the Properties pane, you can design and customize a user interface. The main screen appears in the Screen Editor. The Screen Editor is a visual editor.

Objectives

  • Edit the User Interface
  • Learn how to use the Screen Editor

Setup Tasks

Open BlackBerry MDS Studio™ and select the QuickConversion Project which you created in the previous lab. See the lab entitled Creating a BlackBerry MDS Studio Project for more details.

If you have not completed the first lab in this series, create the QuickConversion project following these steps:

  1. Download the QuickConversion workspace (ZIP) and unzip the file.
  2. Import the QuickConversion workspace to BlackBerry MDS Studio
    Click File menu -> Import Existing… -> Browse -> select QuickConversion -> Finish

Tasks

Change the screen title

  1. In the Navigator pane, expand Screens.
  2. Double-click scrMain.
  3. In the Screen Editor pane, click Main Screen.
  4. In the Properties pane, in the Title property, click ....
  5. To change the title of the screen, in the edit field, type Convert Length.
  6. Click OK.

Change the button text

  1. In the Screen Editor, click Go.
  2. In the Properties, in the Caption property, click ....
  3. To change the button caption, in the edit field, type Convert.
  4. Click OK.

Save the project

  1. In the Navigator pane, click the QuickConversion project.
  2. On the File menu, click Save.
