ITPolicy

Provides access to the IT policy database.

Package net.rim.device.api.itpolicy Description

Contains the classes that define IT Policy functionality. IT Policy enables administrators to configure desktop and handheld settings remotely.

Desktop policy settings are synchronized and updated whenever the BlackBerry Desktop Manager is run. Handheld policy settings are updated each time the BlackBerry Wireless Handheld is placed in the cradle and connected to the BlackBerry Desktop. In addition, handheld policies can be updated periodically over the air.

Administrators can perform the following tasks using IT Policy:

• set a handheld password policy, including the minimum password length and the maximum number of days before the user must change their password
• set owner information on the BlackBerry Wireless Handheld
• lock a BlackBerry Wireless Handheld to display the password prompt screen
• disable the BlackBerry Wireless Handheld and delete all handheld information
• set global handheld settings and filter rules The administrator uses IT Policy to create a .bin policy file. IT Policy files are typically stored on a central file server.
