Support - Unconnected sockets not implemented

Summary

This article applies to the following:

  • BlackBerry® Java® Development Environment (BlackBerry JDE) Plug-in for Eclipse™
  • Java® Runtime Environment (JRE™) 1.6

Problem

When you install the BlackBerry JDE Plug-In for Eclipse, you receive the following error:

Unconnected sockets not implemented

This error occurs in JRE 1.6 and JRE updates 11 and 12.

Resolution

At the time of publication, there is not an updated build to fix this issue. Check the Sun Microsystems® web site for an updated build of JRE 1.6.

Workaround

To work around this issue, complete the following steps:

  1. Remove the existing BlackBerry Update Site from your Eclipse™ configuration and then close Eclipse.
  2. Delete the contents in the Windows\Temp folder.
  3. Download and install JRE 1.5.
  4. Modify the PATH and JAVA_HOME variables to reflect the JRE 1.5 version.
  5. Open Eclipse , and then re-add the BlackBerry Update Site with the address http://www.BlackBerry.com/go/EclipseUpdate
  6. Select the available updates for the installation.
  7. When prompted, type your user name and password.
  8. Complete the installation.
  9. Close Eclipse.
  10. Modify the PATH and JAVA_HOME variables to revert back to JRE 1.6.
