GPS-enabled BlackBerry smartphones can retrieve GPS data from Bluetooth® GPS receivers using either the Bluetooth Serial Port Profile (SPP) application programming interfaces (API) or Location APIs (Java® Specification Request (JSR)-179).

The Bluetooth SPP can be accessed using the Bluetooth API (net.rim.device.api.bluetooth), which is included with BlackBerry® Java® Development Environment (BlackBerry JDE) 4.0 and later.

BlackBerry® 8700 Series smartphones with BlackBerry® Device Software 4.2.1 support JSR 179. For more information on how to pair a Bluetooth GPS receiver with a BlackBerry smartphone using JSR-179, see DB-00538.

The PDE (Position Determining Entity) is required, please refer to the GPSSettings.setPDEInfo()method.

Identifies wireless service providers using the General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) network (uses ephemeris extensions).

Must be part of the Verizon Developer Program.
