IT Policies: Managing the BlackBerry Curve in the Enterprise

BlackBerry Curve

A series of IT policies have been developed to make managing the features and functionality of the BlackBerry® Curve™ smartphone within your organization easy and intuitive.

Camera

An IT policy exists that allows the administrator to disable the BlackBerry Curve smartphone camera. Like all BlackBerry® Enterprise Server IT policies, this can be applied at an individual level, a group level or across the entire BlackBerry® smartphone deployment.

Expandable Memory

Administrators can set IT policies to disable the smartphone's expandable memory capability and/or its ability to function as a USB mass storage device.

Further, an IT policy allows administrators to control data encryption on the expandable memory card: they can disable encryption entirely or encrypt the content to the user password, the device key or both the user password and the device key.

BlackBerry Enterprise Server Updates

The IT policies required to control the camera and expandable memory are included in BlackBerry Enterprise Server software v4.0.6 and v4.1.2. These new policies can also be imported into previous versions of the software.
