Convergence Of Sports and Technology a Hit With The Toronto Blue Jays
Toronto, ON - Mr. Paul V. Godfrey, President and CEO of the Toronto Blue Jays Baseball Club, is pleased to announce a new partnership agreement with Research In Motion (RIM) (Nasdaq: RIMM; TSE: RIM) Limited and Rogers AT&T Wireless. To launch the relationship, the Blue Jays, Rogers AT&T Wireless and RIM hosted a player training session at SkyDome. RIM has supplied Blue Jays players and coaches with BlackBerry Wireless Handheldsä and Rogers AT&T Wireless has provided the network and U.S. roaming services.
"I've been using the BlackBerry for eight months and I find it extremely convenient for keeping in touch with people while I am on the road. BlackBerry is great because you no longer need to turn on your PC or dial into your E-mail. You turn it on and you are connected," stated Carlos Delgado, First Baseman/DH, Toronto Blue Jays Baseball Club.
"We are extremely excited to welcome RIM and Rogers AT&T Wireless to our growing roster of Corporate Partners in our 25th Anniversary Season. The partnerships between Canada's national baseball team, Canada's largest wireless network and Canada's leading manufacturer of wireless solutions is a prime example of the convergence of technology and sports," said Paul V. Godfrey
"We are very pleased to be working with the Toronto Blue Jays and Rogers AT&T Wireless to bring BlackBerry on the road with the team," said Mark Guibert, Vice- President, Brand Management at Research In Motion. "With the Blue Jays spending over 290 days of the year on the road, BlackBerry will provide a powerful means for them to manage their email on the go and stay connected to family, friends and teammates."
"Rogers AT&T Wireless is excited to offer the Toronto Blue Jays team with the freedom to keep in touch anytime, anywhere, over their RIM BlackBerry devices," said David Neale, Vice President, New Product Development, Rogers AT&T Wireless. "The extremely reliable Rogers AT&T Wireless Mobitex network combined with the unique Go.Web microbrowser will enable the players to access information from any HTML website and keep in touch with family and friends, at their convenience."
BlackBerry is a secure, integrated, wireless E-mail solution developed by RIM that allows mobile professionals to enjoy untethered access to their E-mail wherever they go. With the Rogers AT&T Go.Web microbrowser Toronto Blue Jays players and coaching staff will enjoy access to news, sports, weather and virtually any information available from the billions of websites around the world.
Established in 1977, the Toronto Blue Jays won their first American League East Pennant in 1985 and repeated that success in 1989 and 1991. In 1992 and 1993 the Blue Jays made history by being the first Canadian baseball team to win two consecutive World Series Championships. On September 1, 2000 Rogers Communications Inc. purchased 80% of the Toronto Blue Jays with Interbrew owning the remaining 20%. The Toronto Blue Jays continue to delight fans across Canada and the United States with their current team of heavy hitters.
