Consilient Technologies Forms Alliance with RIM to Deliver BlackBerry Platform Compatibility for Novell® GroupWise Users

MX™ (Mail Extension) Software Creates Secure Connection between BlackBerry Wireless Handhelds and GroupWise Server

(Las Vegas, NV ) - Consilient Technologies today announced it will provide Novell® GroupWise users with wireless access to email via the BlackBerry™ platform from Research In Motion Limited (RIM) (Nasdaq: RIMM; TSX: RIM) using MX™ software. There are currently over 34 million Novell GroupWise users. MX is mail extension software developed by Consilient through the BlackBerry ISV Alliance Program.

Currently, BlackBerry Enterprise Server supports integration with Microsoft® Exchange and Lotus® Domino™ based environments. Using MX software, any corporate email system including Novell GroupWise may be wirelessly extended to BlackBerry handhelds without supplementary hardware purchases or changes to the handhelds.

MX creates a communication link between BlackBerry Enterprise Server and the GroupWise server without using a desktop redirector. MX supports all BlackBerry Wireless Handhelds and leverages the end-to-end security (using Triple DES encryption) provided by the BlackBerry platform for corporate customers.

“The combination of RIM’s BlackBerry wireless platform and Consilient’s innovative MX software will enable customers with Novell GroupWise email accounts to enjoy secure, mobile access to their inbox,” said Mark Guibert, Vice President, Brand Management at Research In Motion. “BlackBerry can deliver significant productivity gains, cost savings and competitive advantage for business users.”

A key administrative feature for organizations interested in deploying the BlackBerry wireless platform for large numbers of mobile workers is the MX™ Console display, which is included as part of the MX solution. The MX Console is a single display for administrative monitoring of BlackBerry users and traffic. Features include:

  • User Management (Add/Remove/Edit/Block features)
  • Filter Management (Create/Edit/Remove/Apply features)
  • Error Log Settings (size and number of log files and addresses)
  • Network Traffic Monitoring
  • Licensing Information (change licensed users and servers)

“Novell GroupWise is focused on mobility and security for our customers. Bringing together BlackBerry Wireless Handhelds and Consilient technology means GroupWise customers can now be even more productive,” said Richard Bliss, Novell GroupWise Marketing.

“Delivering mobile access to email via the award-winning BlackBerry platform is now within reach of GroupWise users globally through MX,” says Trevor Adey, President of Consilient Technologies Corp. “Extending information technology (IT) systems to the mobile worker is our core business and MX represents an important wireless extension product in our portfolio,” Adey added.

Pricing for MX is $10,500 USD (per 25 users) and $3,000 USD per 10 additional user packs. The MX solution for GroupWise includes BlackBerry Enterprise Server and the MX Console. Pricing may be lower depending on software configuration requirements.
