CA Extends Leadership In Wireless Management With Two Innovative Unicenter Solutions
Integrated Tools, Broad Industry Alliances Enable Customers to Maximize Business Value of Wireless Infrastructure and Mobile Devices
Orlando, FL - Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA), extending its leadership in wireless/mobile management, today introduced two innovative Unicenter solutions that build on the company's advanced technologies and enable organizations to more effectively manage their multi-vendor wireless environments.
Together, Unicenter Wireless Network Management (WNM) and Unicenter Mobile Device Management (MDM) deliver comprehensive management of both wireless network infrastructures and mobile devices - forming the industry's most complete, end-to-end solution for the integrated management of wireless technologies.
In conjunction with the integrated products and services offered by CA's partners - including Fujitsu Services, Microsoft, Nokia, RIM, and Sprint PCS - these CA solutions optimize customers' returns on their investments in wireless technology, while ensuring the reliability, performance and security of mobile information services.
"To get maximum business value from wireless and mobile technologies, IT organizations must build highly customized environments that combine networks, platforms and applications with the right management tools," said Yogesh Gupta, CA senior vice president and CTO. "With the sophistication of our wireless technology solutions, the breadth of our strategic industry partnerships, and our experience with the deployment of complex wireless systems, CA is uniquely able to help customers build and maintain these customized environments without over-taxing their resources or their tolerance for risk."
CA has led the industry in the management of wireless technologies, providing both enterprise and service provider customers with solutions for monitoring wireless resources and ensuring wireless application availability. The Unicenter solutions being introduced today enable IT departments to more effectively manage end-to-end wireless deployments in conjunction with their wired enterprise environments.
"CA continues to provide us with the tools we need to bring a reliable and secure high-speed network to every part of NetWorld+Interop," said Robert Perkins, CIO of Key3Media Events. "Using their Unicenter tools we are able to showcase the full capabilities of managing and servicing an integrated wired and wireless network."
Unicenter Wireless Network Management provides a comprehensive management and security solution for wireless networks. Key features include:
- Automatic discovery of wireless access points and LAN devices
- Advanced visualization of Wireless LAN topology
- Data collection of critical configuration, event, availability and performance information
- Integrated intrusion detection
Unicenter Mobile Device Management provides comprehensive functionality for configuring, securing and monitoring mobile platforms, including Pocket PC, BlackBerry and PalmOS. Key capabilities include:
- Device identification
- Configuration and change management
- Automated software update distribution
- Virus protection
- Secure communications through VPNs
Both Unicenter WNM and Unicenter MDM, which are scheduled for general availability this summer, integrate with CA's flagship Unicenter Network and Systems Management (Unicenter NSM) solution to ensure that the management of enterprise wireless assets is fully integrated with wired asset management - creating a single, seamless end-to-end eBusiness environment.
CA also continues to work closely with its broad range of industry partners to ensure the end-to-end manageability of today's multi-vendor wireless environments.
"As the deployment of intelligent wireless devices and wireless data applications increases, corporate customers want the ability to easily manage their mobile computing assets as an integrated component of their overall enterprise infrastructure," said David Yach, Vice President, Software at Research In Motion. "RIM and CA have been working together to enable IT departments to extend their Unicenter solutions to provide advanced management of their BlackBerry deployments."
In addition to ensuring the manageability of wireless assets, CA has wireless-enabled its own acclaimed Unicenter management solutions, including Unicenter NSM and Unicenter ServicePlus Service Desk. This wireless enablement empowers technicians to manage and administer enterprise resources any time, anywhere from a variety of mobile devices - thereby achieving optimum 24 x 7 service levels and reducing total staffing requirements.
CA's leadership in wireless management complements the company's innovation in other key areas of wireless deployment - including Advantage Wireless Integrator, a powerful solution for implementing mobile applications that leverages existing enterprise resources; and other wireless-enabled solutions from CA's CleverPath, BrightStor and eTrust brands.
CA has further demonstrated its ongoing commitment to the wireless market by supporting the creation of the Center for Excellence in Wireless technologies at the State University of New York, Stony Brook. The Center is expected to spend about a quarter-billion dollars over the next 10 years on research in wireless technologies and will work to transfer the research into successful commercial applications.
"To take Internet mobility to the next level, we must draw on collective intellectual, technological and financial resources of the entire wireless community," said Dr. Yacov Shamash, dean of the SUNY Stony Brook College of Engineering, who is spearheading the Center's efforts. "We appreciate CA's contributions in these areas as we attempt to birth innovations that will benefit the high-tech sector, their customers in key markets, and society as a whole."
