Sonic Mobility Enables Wireless Management of BlackBerry Enterprise Server Via a BlackBerry Handheld
System Administrators No Longer Need to Be in the Office to Manage BlackBerry Enterprise Server
New Orleans, LA - Sonic Mobility (www.sonicmobility.com) today announced that sonicadmin now enables users to access, monitor and configure their BlackBerry Enterprise Server wirelessly via a BlackBerry™ handheld.
The solution is being demonstrated at RIM's (NASDAQ:RIMM) Wireless Enterprise Symposium this week in New Orleans.
Sonic Mobility's sonicadmin is a robust remote administration software solution for BlackBerry and Pocket PC that enables users to securely manage their Windows NT/2000/2003 (NASDAQ:MSFT) servers and SSH & Telnet capable network devices to diagnose and fix problems on the fly. Recently, Sonic Mobility has developed functionality to allow secure handheld access to several leading network administration solutions. With remote interfaces to industry leading solutions, IT staff using sonicadmin can manage their networks with incredible flexibility. BlackBerry Enterprise Server is the latest solution to be supported. Other systems management software supported includes Opalis Software's OpalisRobot and NetIQ's AppManager Suite.
"The ability to manage our BlackBerry Enterprise Server directly from my BlackBerry handheld with sonicadmin will allow me the flexibility to configure user accounts and make changes to the server from virtually anywhere," said Jim Bergman, director of information technology with Hennigan, Bennett & Dorman LLP, a Los Angeles-based law firm.
The new ability to securely access, monitor and configure BlackBerry Enterprise Server with sonicadmin and a BlackBerry handheld now enables system administrators to manage their BlackBerry Enterprise Server from virtually anywhere. For example, a system administrator that is physically away from the server but needs to modify settings on BlackBerry Enterprise Server could use sonicadmin to handle the situation remotely. A BlackBerry handheld and sonicadmin software is used to make a secure connection to BlackBerry Enterprise Server. Once connected, the user can add, modify, or delete user accounts, change settings and more.
"Sonic Mobility provides solutions that help technical support staff react quickly to events and requests," said Mark Guibert, vice president, brand management at Research In Motion. "With sonicadmin operating on BlackBerry handhelds, IT administrators can stay productive and responsive on the go."
"This new solution was developed in response to direct requests from our users that have come to rely on sonicadmin and BlackBerry handhelds to help manage their Windows servers and networks," said Derek Ball, CEO of Sonic Mobility. "Now, in addition to enabling secure Windows server management and interfaces to leading network management software solutions, users have the ability to manage BlackBerry Enterprise Server, the server software that is the backbone of the solution itself."
