O2 and Xerox announce marketing collaboration in Germany

Marketing of mobile data solutions for document management / Launch planned at CeBIT

Munich / Neuss / Hannover - At CeBIT 2003, O2 Germany and Xerox announce that they will collaborate on the marketing of mobile data solutions for document management. In a first step in this joint effort, mDoc™, the Xerox document management solution, will be distributed via selected sales channels. The companies are also planning joint, integrated marketing and sales activities.

mDoc is a mobile office business solution with which service-enabled wireless devices can access email attachments and documents stored on corporate servers while they are away from their workplaces. As stipulated in an agreement concerning Research In Motion's (RIM) BlackBerry wireless handheld devices, the software will be delivered as a bundle. Data is transmitted to and from the BlackBerry handhelds via the GPRS network provided by O2. CeBIT 2003 marks the start of this collaboration. This business solution will be demonstrated by the business customer sector of O2 Germany and Xerox at CeBIT.

Push services and document management

This BlackBerry solution enables an 'always on' encrypted connection between the BlackBerry handhelds and the company's own email server (Exchange, Lotus Domino). BlackBerry's integrated push technology ensures that emails, diary appointments and other corporate data are sent directly to and from the wireless handheld, without the need to dial-in. BlackBerry also supports the "wireless" synchronization of appointments and emails. With the integration of mDoc, employees on the road can print, fax, or view documents regardless of whether these documents are attached to email messages or stored on their company's document management system. On location with their customers, they have access to all the important documents and files, such as contracts or order confirmations. Specific information can then be added to these documents and printed out immediately, which reduces the response time to customer inquiries considerably and reinforces customer loyalty. Besides basic document retrieval, the software can also personalize forms or contracts and print and fax these documents. Specialists, such as Xerox Global Services, can integrate the solution into the corporate-wide document management system of users who do not have the technology know-how required.

Partners for professional users

"We are very pleased to have found such a strong partner as O2 for our mDoc solution," said Jürgen Dressler, Director of Sales & Channel Services at Xerox´ Office operation in Germany. "Professional users who require mobile access to corporate documents, contracts or correspondence need a complete solution that guarantees them rapid, secure data transfer, that is user-friendly in design and that helps them to work efficiently any place any time. The collaboration of O2 and Xerox bundles long years of experience and know-how in document management with high level competence in the provision of online services for business users."

Presentation at CeBIT 2003

Live presentations of the mDoc solution can be seen at the O2 booth, Hall 12, booth Bo6, and at Xerox, Hall 1, booth 2g8.

The bundle consisting of the BlackBerry email solution and mDoc will be available at a price of € 249 from Xerox and O2 sales partners starting on 12 March 2003.
