Maxis Introduces BlackBerry®
First to bring popular wireless solution to Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur - Maxis Communications Berhad (Maxis) today announced its introduction of the BlackBerry® wireless solution in Malaysia.
Through BlackBerry, which consists of integrated hardware, software and service, Maxis can offer its customers a single, integrated handheld for data and voice services, in particular, secure mobile access to their email while on the move.
Besides email and phone access, Maxis customers can access corporate data, Internet, SMS and organiser applications over its nationwide GSM and GPRS network and roaming access*. As the BlackBerry always-on ‘push’ technology automatically delivers messages to the handheld, users will not have to constantly dial in to their email to check for new messages.
“We are pleased to be the first mobile service provider to bring BlackBerry to Malaysia,” said Maxis’ Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Jamaludin Ibrahim. “This latest addition to our range of Wireless Office Solutions enables us to provide another compelling option to our customers who want email and Internet access anytime, anywhere – even when they are on the go.”
Maxis is currently offering BlackBerry to selected corporate customers only and plans to roll out BlackBerry to the rest of its customer base by next year. The handhelds to be made available initially are the BlackBerry 7730™ and the BlackBerry 7290™.
“According to RIM, BlackBerry is already a popular wireless platform in North America, Europe and Asia, with over 2 million subscribers in over 30 countries**,” said Jamaludin. “Maxis’ corporate customers can now join the ranks of professionals and organisations worldwide, who are already capitalising on BlackBerry to boost their efficiency.”
For corporate customers, BlackBerry Enterprise Server™ software tightly integrates with Microsoft® Exchange and IBM Lotus® Domino™ and works with existing enterprise systems to enable secure, push-based, end-to-end, wireless access to email and other corporate data.
BlackBerry is designed, developed and manufactured by Research In Motion (RIM) (Nasdaq: RIMM; TSX: RIM).
Maxis was also the first mobile operator in Malaysia to introduce Push-To-Talk Over Cellular service, caller ringtones, mobile music portal, video streaming, MMS and the location-based service, Friend Finder.
