PGP Corporation Expands Capabilities of Popular PGP Universal Secure Messaging for Enterprises
IBM Lotus Notes/Domino Server support, BlackBerry support, and Symantec AntiVirus Scan Engine now standard features
Palo Alto, CA - PGP Corporation, a global leader in digital information security, today released the newest version of PGP® Universal. IBM Lotus® Notes users and those requiring enterprise-level antivirus scanning now can incorporate PGP Universal 1.2 as part of their enterprise secure-messaging solution.
PGP Universal is a server-based, enterprise-level, secure-messaging solution that addresses several critical technology requirements of leading organizations:
- Automatic and transparent for its users by moving email security from the desktop to the network
- Two-way policy enforcement to help ensure compliance with security policies by external suppliers, partners, resellers, and customers—even when they are without keys
- Extends existing IT infrastructure investments with support for OpenPGP, X.509, and S/MIME standards plus integration with existing LDAP directories, public key infrastructure (PKI), and PGP Desktop deployments
- Lower total cost of ownership by eliminating the user training and IT deployment expenses associated with desktop solutions
"Three critical technology criteria demanded by large organizations have been met with this release of PGP Universal," said Phillip Dunkelberger, president and CEO of PGP Corporation. "Lotus Notes and BlackBerry users now have additional secure-messaging options. And for organizations needing enterprise-level antivirus scanning and filtering, PGP Universal provides simplified management and integration using Symantec's superior antivirus scanning and file blocking technologies."
New features in PGP Universal 1.2:
- IBM Lotus Notes/Domino™ Server Support – PGP Universal Satellite for Windows now supports Lotus Notes email clients in a Domino server environment. Organizations using Lotus Notes' built-in, internally focused email security now have the option to extend secure messaging to both S/MIME and PGP users outside the company firewall.
- Symantec AntiVirus Scan Engine integrates enterprise-quality virus scanning from Symantec into the PGP Universal Server.
- Outgoing messages and attachments are scanned before they are encrypted and incoming messages are scanned immediately after decryption. Infected attachments are either repaired or deleted.
- Email attachments that have file names or file extensions specified as suspect are blocked. When a new virus appears, this feature quickly protects the network by blocking the virus while waiting for the latest virus definitions from Symantec.
- Compatibility between BlackBerry Enterprise Server™ and gateway deployments of PGP Universal – Customers using the S/MIME Support Package for BlackBerry can now load X.509 certificates into the PGP Universal Server to achieve automatic email encryption, decryption, digital signatures, and policy enforcement for BlackBerry users in the gateway. PGP Corporation and Research In Motion (RIM) have developed a joint configuration guide to help enterprises successfully deploy PGP Universal and BlackBerry Enterprise Server in complex network environments.
Symantec AntiVirus Scan Engine
The Symantec AntiVirus Scan Engine provides high-performance, scalable, and reliable virus protection for traffic served through, or stored on, network infrastructure services, applications, and devices. The Symantec AntiVirus Scan Engine employs award-winning technologies to detect and repair viruses, worms, and Trojan horses in all major file types, including mobile code and compressed file formats. Virus definitions and engines are updated automatically with no interruption in virus scanning. To ensure highly scalable virus protection, the solution easily accommodates growing traffic volumes with automatic load balancing across multiple servers.
BlackBerry Enterprise Server
BlackBerry is the industry-leading wireless platform that connects mobile professionals to their important information and communications via email, phone, corporate data, Web, SMS and organizer applications. For corporate and government organizations, BlackBerry Enterprise Server software tightly integrates with Microsoft ® Exchange or IBM Lotus Domino and works with existing enterprise systems to enable secure, push-based, wireless access to existing email and other corporate data.
PGP Universal Server
PGP Universal provides practical, wide-scale deployment of secure messaging. By moving email encryption responsibility away from users to the network, encryption, decryption, and digital signatures are automatic and user-transparent. Messages are encrypted to individual keypairs and secured even when recipients have no keys. PGP Universal can quickly and cost-effectively secure up to 100% of an enterprise's users-both inside and outside the organization. PGP Universal supports both OpenPGP and X.509 + S/MIME standards and delivers low-cost deployment through its self-deploying, proxy-based architecture. Keys are created dynamically, allowing IT control over bidirectional policy enforcement. PGP Universal Server, available worldwide through PGP Corporation and approved resellers, includes support for BlackBerry as part of standard pricing. Annual subscription licenses of Symantec AntiVirus Scan Engine capability are available as a bundle with PGP Universal products. PGP Corporation will provide first-level support through PGP engineers with Symantec AntiVirus Scan Engine certifications, backed by Symantec Platinum support.
