BlackBerry to Complement SingTel's Suite of Wireless Office Solutions
Singapore - Singapore Telecommunications Limited (SingTel) will offer BlackBerry® to its corporate customers from 16 July 2004.
BlackBerry, a popular corporate wireless service in Asia, Europe and the US, provides integrated access to email, data, Internet, phone and personal information management applications on a single wireless handheld. Developed by Research In Motion (RIM), BlackBerry is deployed by thousands of corporations with over 1.3 million active subscribers worldwide.
The new service offering will complement SingTel's existing suite of wireless email and office solutions, such as MobileMail and Personal Information Manager (PIM) services.
Mr Thomas Yeo, SingTel's Vice President for Corporate Business Marketing, said that the introduction of BlackBerry will give SingTel's corporate customers more options as some companies may have to follow HQ policies regarding the choice of platforms and handheld devices.
"We recognise that a single solution cannot meet the diverse needs of different companies. By offering a range of high quality wireless email and office solutions, we can better address the mobile data communication needs of both local enterprises and large global corporations," Mr Yeo said.
Built on "push" technology, BlackBerry Enterprise Server™ provides integrated access to Microsoft Exchange® Exchange and IBM Lotus® Domino™ environments. Together with SingTel's strong international roaming capabilities, Blackberry is an ideal solution for corporate customers on the move - using just a single handheld.
SingTel introduced MobileMail in mid-2003. It gives users wireless access to corporate email, calendar and contact information residing within corporate servers as well as documents stored in the user desktops, with any GPRS integrated PDA device and even laptop while on the move.
SingTel's mobile customers also enjoy simple access to their email on their WAP/GPRS enabled mobile phones through PIM, offered under SingTel's suite of IDEAS services. There is no monthly subscription for IDEAS and customers pay only for the GPRS data traffic.
Mr Yeo said: "With the proliferation of email and mobile phones, fast and reliable access to corporate email and data servers while on the move has become a key differentiator in this competitive world. SingTel will continue to offer tried and tested solutions that can best meet the needs of our customers – both corporate and individual – and help improve their productivity and achieve that competitive edge."
Mr Patrick Spence, Vice President of Asia Pacific, Research In Motion, said: "SingTel's dedication to providing mobile professionals with advanced wireless data and voice services strongly complements the Blackberry offering. We are very pleased to work with SingTel to bring Blackberry to their corporate customers."
Mr Spence added: "Blackberry is a proven solution that has provided users with productivity gains of 54 minutes per day on average1. We believe SingTel customers will value such productivity benefits and return on investment."
Monthly subscription for BlackBerry from SingTel is S$63 for unlimited BlackBerry GPRS traffic per month.
