PeopleSoft and Research In Motion Deliver Wireless Access to Customer Data with PeopleSoft Enterprise Sales for BlackBerry

New Solution Offers Unmatched Usability and Always-On Access to Data

PLEASANTON, CA - PeopleSoft, Inc. (PSFT) today announced PeopleSoft(R) Enterprise Sales for BlackBerry(R), a new wireless Sales Force Automation (SFA) solution optimized for managing time-sensitive and mission-critical sales tasks. PeopleSoft Enterprise Sales for BlackBerry works in conjunction with the BlackBerry wireless platform developed by Research In Motion (RIM) (Nasdaq: RIMM; TSX: RIM) to increase the productivity of mobile sales professionals. The new solution delivers unmatched usability and functionality for quick adoption by sales reps across a variety of industries such as communications, high-technology, and financial services.

"With the growing popularity of wireless email and wireless email platforms, users continue to ask for application connectivity to increase their productivity," said Jack Gold, vice president at META Group, a leading provider of IT research, advisory services, and strategic consulting. "Integrating application extensions with familiar tools such as email and already installed devices like BlackBerry is a great way to get SFA data into the hands of mobile sales professionals. Solutions that deliver this functionality out-of-the-box provide an easy choice for enterprises, lowering overall deployment costs while significantly accelerating the end user's learning curve."

PeopleSoft Enterprise Sales for BlackBerry advances the field of wireless SFA solutions with the following features:

  • Unmatched Usability.  PeopleSoft Enterprise Sales for BlackBerry delivers seamless integration between the PeopleSoft Sales application and common Personal Information Management (PIM) solutions such as Microsoft Outlook or IBM Lotus Notes. Its convenient "enter once, save simultaneously" feature allows users to enter, search, and update data in both applications with no manual synchronization required, ensuring a single system of record. The elimination of duplicative and manual processes is key to driving user adoption. In addition, "tear sheet" summary views streamline navigation and enable users to quickly access relevant sales information, resulting in immediate action and follow-up.
  •  'Always-on' access to data.  With many wireless SFA solutions, users rely on a web browser to view and update data.  PeopleSoft's new solution ensures continuous access to data -- even outside of wireless coverage areas -- by embedding PeopleSoft Enterprise CRM 8.9 Sales on the BlackBerry handheld with a local data store. The Java-based application is pushed wirelessly to the BlackBerry device for easy installation and deployment. Wireless "trickle sync," a data synchronization method based on the BlackBerry push and always-on architecture, ensures data accuracy by detecting when a wireless connection is available and automatically refreshing data. As a result, users can access and update data at any time without synchronizing data on their own.
  •  Prescriptive Analytics.  Another unique feature of PeopleSoft Enterprise Sales for BlackBerry is PeopleSoft Enterprise CRM 8.9 Prescriptive Analytics. This groundbreaking analytic engine, which is embedded in the product, enables companies to define rules to trigger email alerts for immediate follow-up, such as incoming hot leads. With PeopleSoft Enterprise Sales for BlackBerry, sales reps can be sure they'll be instantly alerted to time-sensitive and critical issues.

PeopleSoft Enterprise Sales for BlackBerry expands PeopleSoft's mobile CRM offerings by delivering a solution optimized for knowledge workers, or highly mobile "road warriors" who need instant access to mission-critical information and communications. To ensure data security, PeopleSoft Enterprise Sales for BlackBerry features AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) data encryption and automatic "data wiping" capabilities in case the device is ever lost or stolen.

Benefits of the new PeopleSoft Enterprise Sales for BlackBerry solution include:

  •   Always-on access to information, enabling users to better manage sales activity and respond quickly to customers.
  •   Increased revenue through greater sales efficiency and effectiveness.
  •  Instant user adoption.
  •  Increased ROI on CRM investment as a result of increased application use.
  •  An improved total ownership experience as a result of easy deployment, minimal user training, and low maintenance costs.

"PeopleSoft Enterprise Sales for BlackBerry is the first SFA solution in years that is designed to meet the needs of the mobile sales rep," said George Ahn, group vice president and general manager of PeopleSoft Enterprise CRM. "Now, mobile users can quickly and easily send and receive real-time CRM data as well as email while on the move, significantly increasing their sales effectiveness."

"The push-based BlackBerry platform provides a powerful foundation for mobile CRM access and interaction that can help sales professionals enhance customer relationships and increase productivity," said Jim Balsillie, chairman and co-CEO at Research In Motion. "With PeopleSoft Enterprise Sales for BlackBerry, users can remain up-to-date on important customer information and IT departments can further increase their BlackBerry ROI by enabling both wireless email and CRM access in the field."
