Onset Adds Custom Message Alerts to METAmessage for BlackBerry®
Santa Cruz, Calif. - Onset Technology, a leading developer of enterprise access software for wireless handheld devices, announced today the availability of a custom message alert feature which lets users set their BlackBerry Wireless Handheld™ from Research In Motion (RIM) (NASDAQ: RIMM, TSX: RIM) for sound, vibration, or popup-window notifications when a message arrives from a specific sender or with a specific subject.
In addition to making any METAmessage user’s email notifications more informative, the custom alert capability makes systems such as Washington’s “DC Text Alert” more effective. The DC Text Alert system provides immediate notification and update information to BlackBerry® handheld users during a major crisis or emergency. When an incident or emergency occurs, authorized DC Emergency Management personnel rapidly notify users with this community alert system. With METAmessage custom alerts, such emergency communications will receive immediate attention when received on a handheld.
According to Gadi Mazor, president and CEO of Onset Technology, “Now, users can know when messages of special importance arrive, without even looking at their handhelds. Besides being a great convenience in everyday use, this is a critical capability for emergency communications. There are certain categories of messages that users either want to, or must respond to immediately, and the messages have to ‘stand out’ amidst normal email traffic.”
Custom alerts let users set notification rules in order to differentiate messages from different senders or with different subjects. For example, a user can set alerts so that any message from a central-command or supervisor’s email or PIN address or any message with “Urgent” in the Subject: line appears as a popup window with an audible tune. And, administrators can set read-only alert rules so that enterprise-wide notifications will receive special attention.
