Nokia Announces Availability of BlackBerry Connect

BlackBerry® Connect™ now available with the Nokia 9300 smartphone and Nokia 9500 Communicator to meet growing business demand

Sydney, Australia - Nokia (NYSE: NOK) has announced the availability of the Nokia 9300 smartphone and Nokia 9500 Communicator enabled with BlackBerry® Connect™ in the Australian market. Nokia has worked with Research In Motion (RIM) (Nasdaq: RIMM) to provide BlackBerry Connect on its enterprise devices. The Nokia 9300 smartphone and Nokia 9500 Communicator handsets will be available with BlackBerry Connect from late August 2005.

BlackBerry Connect on Nokia business-optimised devices enables users to connect to email via BlackBerry Enterprise Server™ or BlackBerry Internet Service™ using the same push-based, efficient and reliable communications platform currently deployed by many leading Australian businesses.

“Adding BlackBerry connectivity to Nokia’s high-end enterprise devices increases customer choice,” commented Brad Reed, Marketing Manager, Nokia Enterprise Solutions. “The growth in demand for mobility solutions has substantially expanded over the last year, driven by the fact that over a quarter of the Australian workforce is now mobile. Mobility has emerged as a priority investment area for corporate IT managers and we believe that the form factor of the Nokia 9300 smartphone and Nokia 9500 Communicator, coupled with BlackBerry functionality, makes them ideal handsets for mobile connectivity and email; with their large colour screens, straightforward menu navigation and integrated QWERTY keyboards.”

“BlackBerry Connect will allow users of the Nokia 9300 smartphone and Nokia 9500 Communicator to take advantage of advanced, push-based BlackBerry features and services and allow IT Managers to leverage their existing investments in the BlackBerry wireless platform and security architecture while supporting additional devices,” said Mark Guibert, Vice President, Corporate Marketing at Research In Motion.

Recent research by IDC (March 2005) demonstrates the ever-growing demand from Australian businesses for effective ways of integrating mobile solutions into their current IT systems. According to IDC, over 25% of large businesses surveyed said they were looking to implement mobile solutions in 2005, while over 55% of small to medium sized businesses were either currently implementing a strategy or planning one over the next year.

“Enterprises are looking for mobile email solutions and RIM’s BlackBerry solution has established itself as an early leader in the market,” added Mr Reed. “Nokia’s offering with BlackBerry Connect broadens the options for businesses considering mobile devices for email.”

The Nokia 9300 smartphone and Nokia 9500 Communicator are the latest additions to Nokia's range of enterprise grade mobile devices. The Nokia 9300 smartphone was recently awarded ‘Editor’s Choice’ by Technology & Business magazine in its smartphone group test, in association with RMIT Labs.
