Handango and RIM Sponsor Java Developers' Contest for RIM Wireless Handhelds

San Francisco - Handango, the developer of the world's leading Internet marketplace for handheld computing solutions, and Research In Motion Limited (Nasdaq: RIMM; TSE: RIM), a world leader in the mobile communications market, today announced the joint sponsorship of a Java™ 2 Micro Edition (J2ME) Developer Contest at the JavaOneSM Conference this week in San Francisco. The J2ME Developers' Contest is intended to help produce awareness and interest with developers to create the best business and consumer applications for RIM Wireless Handhelds.

The J2ME Developer's Contest is open to JavaOne conference attendees who receive RIM's Java Developer's Kit (Early Access Version) as well as any other developer who download the kit from RIM's Developer Zone web site. Entries will be judged by RIM and Handango and winners will receive a free RIM 957 Wireless Handheld™ with the BlackBerry™ wireless email solution including airtime for one year. In addition, Handango will award the "Overall Favorite Application" winner with $15,000 worth of marketing funds to promote the new Java application to the 1.3 million unique monthly visitors to Handango.com or Handango's partner sites. Additionally, winners in the best "Game", "User Interface" and "Business Productivity" categories will each be awarded $5,000 in marketing funds.
