Research In Motion Supplies BlackBerry Wireless Email To Salomon Smith Barney

BlackBerry Wireless Handhelds Will Allow Investment Professionals To Stay Connected To Their Email Throughout The Day

Waterloo, ON - Research In Motion Limited (Nasdaq: RIMM, TSE: RIM) today announced it has reached an agreement with Salomon Smith Barney to supply BlackBerry Exchange Edition to the investment firm's employees in offices throughout North America. As part of the first deployment phase, occurring over the next year, Salomon Smith Barney plans to deploy BlackBerry Enterprise Server and 2,500 BlackBerry Handhelds to financial professionals within several groups including global investment research, securities trading, investment banking, asset management and brokerage services. The BlackBerry solution provides Salomon Smith Barney professionals with secure, mobile access to their corporate email, contacts, calendar and task list and allows them to stay connected and productive when they are away from their desk.

"Communication and workflow patterns within organizations have dramatically changed over the last several years. Email has become interlaced with virtually all aspects of business," said Mark Guibert, Director of Marketing at Research In Motion. "BlackBerry helps organizations adapt to these new communication and workflow patterns by enabling people to manage their email and time more effectively."

WS Communications Inc., an authorized BlackBerry Solution Provider, is working closely with RIM and Salomon Smith Barney to support the deployment of BlackBerry Handhelds and BlackBerry Enterprise Server. WS Communications is a leading provider of wireless and data solutions, specifically serving the needs of the Fortune 1000.

RIM's BlackBerry solution includes a powerful wireless handheld with integrated email/organizer software, PC docking cradle, innovative desktop and server software, single mailbox integration and flat-rate nationwide airtime. It features an end-to-end security system whereby all corporate email remains encrypted at all points between the desktop PC and the BlackBerry Handheld, meeting standard corporate security guidelines. The "push model" of email delivery that BlackBerry provides does not require the user to dial-in or initiate the connection, so users receive notification as a new email arrives and can respond immediately. BlackBerry Enterprise Server allows centralized administration, increased scalability and enhanced performance for corporate environments.
