Research In Motion and Compaq Expand Strategic Alliance
Compaq to offer co-branded iPAQ BlackBerry Wireless Email Solution
Waterloo, Ontario - Research In Motion Limited (Nasdaq: RIMM; TSE: RIM) today announced that it has expanded its relationship with Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ). Combining the wireless expertise of RIM with Compaq's leadership in the integration and support of enterprise messaging systems, the two companies have agreed to offer customers an end-to-end wireless email solution that will be co-branded by Compaq and RIM.
The new solution offering is named the iPAQ™ BlackBerry™ Wireless Email Solution and features RIM's award-winning BlackBerry handheld devices, software and wireless service together with industry-leading server hardware, enterprise messaging software and professional services from Compaq. As part of the solution, Compaq will offer two of RIM's wireless handhelds under the iPAQ BlackBerry brand. The RIM 950™ will be branded as the iPAQ BlackBerry W1000 and the RIM 957™ will be branded as the iPAQ BlackBerry H1100. The iPAQ BlackBerry Wireless Email Solution will be available through Compaq in the United States and Canada. The iPAQ BlackBerry W1000 is available immediately. The iPAQ BlackBerry H1100 is expected to be available by mid-September.
