Hutchison Telecom Launches New Service To Enable BlackBerry Customers To Wirelessly Access Multiple Email Accounts Using BlackBerry Web Client
BlackBerry Users Are Able To Access Personal ISP Email Accounts In Addition To Corporate Email Accounts Via Hutchison Telecom's Orange GSM Network And GPRS Technology While Traveling in 28 Countries and Destinations Around The World
Hong Kong - Hutchison Telecommunications (Hong Kong) Limited and Research In Motion Limited (RIM) (Nasdaq: RIMM; TSX: RIM) today announced the commercial launch of BlackBerry Web Client in Hong Kong. BlackBerry Web Client is a web-based application that enables a single BlackBerry™ handheld to access multiple existing email accounts including ISP email accounts that support the POP3 protocol. BlackBerry Web Client complements the corporate email integration features enabled by BlackBerry Enterprise Server. The BlackBerry wireless solution is available in Hong Kong from Hutchison Telecom and provides a range of email, data and phone services.
"Hutchison Telecom is the first mobile operator in Asia to deliver the BlackBerry wireless email solution and in only a few months we have successfully deployed BlackBerry in leading corporations in Hong Kong," said Agnes Nardi, Managing Director of Hutchison Telecommunications (Hong Kong) Limited. "BlackBerry Web Client is an extension of our offering to provide new and existing customers with additional email integration options using our robust GPRS data service platform. With our widest and world-leading coverage of GPRS roaming service, BlackBerry customers can receive all emails automatically while travelling abroad in 20 countries and regions round the world, staying close connected with their business partners and friends. Underlining our leading position in the local wireless data market, we will continue our efforts to bring in the most innovative wireless services to meet the needs of the individuals and the corporate community."
"BlackBerry is a proven platform that provides mobile users around the world with secure, wireless access to Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Domino email systems," said Jim Balsillie, Chairman and Co-CEO at Research In Motion. "BlackBerry Web Client opens BlackBerry to broader markets including smaller businesses and individuals that do not use Exchange or Domino. It also expands the value of BlackBerry for enterprise users by enabling access to their personal email accounts in addition to their corporate email accounts."
BlackBerry Web Client allows customers to access multiple existing email accounts (including ISP accounts) from a single BlackBerry handheld through use of the POP3 protocol and/or mail forwarding. In addition, a default web mail account is provided for each handheld. IT departments running BlackBerry Enterprise Server will retain the ability to centrally control and implement policies on handhelds that prevent access to personal ISP accounts.
BlackBerry provides corporate customers with the most comprehensive end-to-end wireless solution that includes integrated email, phone, SMS, web and organizer features. It is the first wireless platform that integrates voice and data services while properly addressing the needs of both end users and IT departments. BlackBerry from Hutchison Telecom features advanced BlackBerry 5820 Wireless Handhelds™, BlackBerry Enterprise Server software and BlackBerry Web Client. It allows business users to manage their important information and communications from a single wireless handheld with 'always on' operation, single mailbox integration, a "push" based architecture and end-to-end security with existing corporate email accounts. Hutchison Telecom's Orange GSM Dualband network and its leading-edge 2.5G high-speed data service provide voice services and 'always on' connectivity for accessing data easily and quickly.
With Hutchison Telecom's extensive GPRS roaming coverage, BlackBerry users can enjoy access to email, corporate data and voice services while roaming in 28 countries and destinations around the world, including China (Guangdong Province, Fuijian Province, Liaoning Province, Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Taiyuan, Huhehaote and Wuxi), Macau, Taiwan, Thailand, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Singapore, the United States, Germany, Switzerland, the UK, Finland, Iceland, Turkey, Northern Ireland, Orkney Islands, Shetland, Ibiza, Liechtenstein, Mallorca, Menorca, Russia (Moscow), Spain, Canary Island, Ceuta, Melilla, Akland and Hebrides.
