Amman, Jordan and Waterloo, ON - Fastlink, part of the Mobile Telecommunications Company (MTC) and Research In Motion (RIM) (Nasdaq: RIMM; TSX: RIM) today announced the launch of the BlackBerry® Pearl™ smartphone in Jordan.
The BlackBerry Pearl enables users to access the proven and popular BlackBerry wireless services with support for email, phone, Internet, text messaging, organiser and corporate data applications. The BlackBerry Pearl also includes a digital camera, a media player and an expandable memory for additional storage.
Fastlink also announced today that it is now offering BlackBerry® Internet Service for individual customers. The announcement comes following the successful provision of BlackBerry services to its corporate clients with BlackBerry® Enterprise Server.
The company formally introduced the BlackBerry solution in Jordan for the first time in February 2007. The offering was launched in cooperation with RIM, the Canadian company behind the BlackBerry solution, and Emitac Mobile Solutions (EMS), a Dubai-based mobile solutions and service provider. In February, Fastlink received a RIM Award of Excellence for its speed and skill in implementing the BlackBerry solution in Jordan. The award was presented to Fastlink's CEO Saad Nasir during the 3GSM World Congress 2007 in Barcelona.
Fastlink's CEO, Saad Nasir, said: “The local market is witnessing an unprecedented investment boom, creating the need for technological solutions to meet the challenges of the competitive business environment and life's fast pace”. Such changes said Nasir “prompted Fastlink to launch the BlackBerry solution in the Jordanian market extremely quickly, for which it received an RIM Award of Excellence."
Nasir also added “the BlackBerry solution can help boost companies' competitiveness by increasing the efficiency and productivity of users, and positively influencing the level of customer service that can be offered by companies to their customers”.
"The BlackBerry solution gives users fast and easy access to the people and information they need on the move, making them more productive and successful in both their personal and professional life,” said Charmaine Eggberry, Managing Director and Vice President, RIM, EMEA.
The BlackBerry solution is currently available in four Arab countries including Jordan, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain. The world-renowned technology is aimed at companies and mobile professionals whose jobs require them to stay connected with their clients, colleagues and office while on the go.
For corporate customers the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, which tightly integrates with IBM Lotus® Domino®, Microsoft® Exchange and Novell® GroupWise® and works with existing enterprise systems to enable secure, push-based wireless access to email and other corporate data.
For individuals and smaller businesses, the BlackBerry Internet Service offering enables users to manage up to ten supported corporate and personal email accounts, including most popular ISP email accounts, from a single device.
