Airtel and RIM Launch the GPS-enabled BlackBerry Pearl 8110 Smartphone in India

Delhi, India- Bharti Airtel, India’s leading private telecom services provider and Research In Motion (RIM) (Nasdaq: RIMM; TSX: RIM) today introduced the new BlackBerry® Pearl™ 8110 smartphone with built-in GPS (Global Positioning System) in India. The BlackBerry Pearl 8110 will be available from Airtel for Rs 24,990.

The sleek and stylish BlackBerry Pearl 8110 smartphone includes rich multimedia features together with powerful communications capabilities. It is one of the smallest and lightest smartphones on the market and is designed for people who want to make the most of their work and personal lives.

With its built-in GPS combined with WayFinder Navigator*, users of the BlackBerry Pearl 8110 can plan trips, save their favourite locations and easily share routes and maps with others by email. WayFinder Navigator, an after-market offering from Airtel, provides audible, turn-by-turn navigation and comes with maps covering major cities and road networks across India. WayFinder Navigator can be downloaded from the Airtel’s website and is available for a free six month trial.

Featuring an elegant black finish, the BlackBerry Pearl 8110 smartphone also features:

  • Access to email, phone, organiser, browser and other mobile applications
  • 2 megapixel camera with flash and 5x zoom, able to take pictures that can be shared via email, MMS and instant messenger applications; the camera also supports video recording**
