ou hear them everywhere – at shopping centers, on the train, in your neighbor's backyard. They are ring tones, the tiny symphonies in your life. Yes, they inform you of an urgent call and even who's calling. But, they're also amazingly personal. Like the businessman who's crazy about AC/DC or the 14–year–old who just discovered The Beatles – it's a chance to share who you are with the world.

Your BlackBerry® smartphone comes with all the functionality you need to make ring tones not only work for you but also let your personality shine through.

Here are easy, step–by–step tips on how to create, assign and download your personal symphony.

When creating a ring tone, you can select an existing ring tone from your phone, make one with your music player or create a personalized one using the Voicenotes application on your BlackBerry smartphone. Simply, record a voicenote of anything such as your friend's singing or your dog's bark. Then make it your ring tone. Whenever someone calls, your phone will ring out with your favorite sound. Here's how:

  • From Options, choose Notification Profile.
  • Click Advanced and then highlight a Notification Profile.
  • Press the Menu key and click Show Tunes.
  • Click a folder that contains Music, Ring Tones or Voicenotes.
  • Highlight the sound you want.
  • Press the Menu key and click Set as Phone Tune.
  • From the Home screen, click the Sounds icon.
  • Click Set Ring Tones/Alerts.
  • Choose and click the app or item you want to change (e.g. Phone).
  • From the "Ring Tone" Menu press Select Music.
  • Choose the type of sound file you want to use (e.g Music or Voicenote).
  • Press the Menu key and click Save.
  • From the Home screen click the Sounds and Alerts Profile icon.
  • Select the profile you want to change. Then click Change Sounds and Alerts and choose Sounds for Selected Profile.
  • In the Ring Tone field click the type of file you want to use (e.g. Music or Voicenote).
  • Press the Menu key and click Save.

  • Click Set Contact Alerts.
  • Click Add Contact Alert.
  • Press the Menu key.
