BlackBerry Technical Seminar 2007 Wrap Up!
The second virtual BlackBerry® Technical Seminar took place in November, with thousands of participants from around the world attending the online event from the comfort of their own office chair.
BlackBerry Technical Seminar 2007 featured 15 live webcasts, four live Q&A sessions with BlackBerry experts, and an exhibition hall with virtual booths staffed by live representatives from Research In Motion (RIM) and event sponsors BoxTone®, Neverfail™, CA™, and Zenprise.
This time around, to accommodate multiple time zones and the growing popularity of BlackBerry Technical Seminars, two separate events were held, an Americas Edition and an Asia Pacific Edition.
Attendees were able to chat in real-time with BlackBerry technical experts and representatives from the four sponsors, as well as discuss hot topics with fellow IT professionals. Many chat participants also got instant answers to tough technical questions.
"We were overwhelmed with positive feedback on the information we were sharing and on the event as a whole. It’s great to see the level of interest in understanding the evolution of our platform, as well as the focus on best practices to maximize existing BlackBerry investments,"
says Alan Panezic, Vice President, Software Product Management at RIM. Here are some of the comments submitted by attendees who described their experience at the virtual event:
- "Excellent presentation. The virtual session worked flawlessly and I didn't have to travel!"
- "The Q&A answered questions for me that I did not know I had."
- "I liked the information on how to keep our helpdesk up to speed on BlackBerry troubleshooting."
- "I received much of the same information as if I had physically attended a conference."
- "This is saving my company thousands of dollars - I hope you do more."
- "I found it easy to navigate and very informative. I would definitely attend this sort of training in the future."
- "Can't wait for next year!"
The BlackBerry Technical Seminar 2007 featured two technical tracks, one for administrators and one for developers.
Popular administrator sessions included Everything You Need To Know About Deploying And Managing BlackBerry Smartphones, Architecting A Highly Available BlackBerry Environment, and Troubleshooting The BlackBerry Solution (Helping The Help Desk and Overcoming Administrative Hurdles).
For developers, the sessions on Java® ME Development for BlackBerry, Intro to BlackBerry® MDS Studio, and BlackBerry® Plug-in for Microsoft® Visual Studio® were very popular.
"Attendees gave the event high marks in terms of value," says Panezic. 91% of polled attendants gave "excellent" or "good" ratings for value of the educational content, and 97% gave "excellent" or "good" ratings for overall value of the general session presentations. And 93% considered
the overall experience to be "excellent" or "good."
"These virtual BlackBerry Technical Seminars offer a learning experience that is much richer than a traditional webcast. And the fact that IT professionals can attend for free, without having to travel, is of tremendous value to busy IT administrators and developers," says Panezic.
"The growing attendance rate and the excellent feedback from this second event are a testament to that value, and we look forward to delivering the next BlackBerry Technical Seminar in 2008."
