Tips and Tricks for Your Smartphone
Increase Your Media Portability
If you have a favorite video, song or other document on your BlackBerry® smartphone and weren't sure how to move it to your pc or laptop, this tip covers all the different ways to move files.
Transferring media files between your BlackBerry smartphone and another device like your computer is easy and in fact can be done in several ways:
- You can transfer the media file directly by connecting your BlackBerry smartphone to your computer and using the BlackBerry® Desktop Manager, or
- Use the mass storage mode option, or
- Use Bluetooth® technology to send or receive the files.
Here are some instructions to help you accomplish your file transfer:
To transfer a file between your device and your computer using the Roxio® Media Manager
- Connect your BlackBerry smartphone to your computer.
- On your computer, open the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
- Double-click Roxio Media Manager.
- Drag a file or folder from one location to another.
For more information about using the media manager tool, see the Media Manager Online Help (on your BlackBerry smartphone, select the Media icon, then select Help from the menu).
To transfer a file between your device and your computer in mass storage mode
Verify that mass storage mode is turned on.
- Connect your BlackBerry smartphone to your computer.
- On your computer, double-click My Computer.
- In the Devices with Removable Storage section, click Removable Disk.
- Drag a file from one location to another. To exit mass storage mode, disconnect your device from your computer.
To send a media file using Bluetooth technology
Verify that Bluetooth technology is turned on and that your BlackBerry smartphone is paired with a Bluetooth enabled device.
- In the media application, click a media type.
- Click a category.
- Highlight a media file.
- Press the Menu key.
- Click Send Using Bluetooth.
- Click a Bluetooth enabled device.
- Click Send.
Please note that if you turn on media card encryption and you transfer files to your media card using mass storage mode or Bluetooth technology, your device does not encrypt the transferred files. If you transfer encrypted files from your media card using mass storage mode or Bluetooth technology, you cannot decrypt the files on your computer or on a Bluetooth enabled device.
