Five quick tips for managing music on your BlackBerry Smartphone

Tips & Tricks: Music

With so many devices vying for our attention these days, it can be a huge relief to cut back on the number of gadgets we carry around. It’s possible to do exactly that if you let your BlackBerry® smartphone take over your day-to-day music playing and leave your MP3 player at home. With that in mind, here are some tips and tricks to help you manage your digital music collection on your BlackBerry smartphone with an embedded or external media card.

Transfer music via mass storage mode

When your BlackBerry smartphone is connected to your computer in mass storage mode, the computer sees it as removable storage, like a USB thumb drive, which makes it easy to add and remove files. To use mass storage mode, first make sure that it’s enabled on your computer by following these steps:

  1. On the Home screen, press the Menu key.
  2. Select Options.
  3. Select Memory.
  4. Make sure that the Mass Storage Mode Support field is set to On.

Now simply connect your BlackBerry smartphone to a computer via USB cable. If you are prompted on the device to enter mass storage mode, select Yes. If necessary, type your device password and press the Enter key. On your computer, you should see the BlackBerry smartphone as a new storage device. On your computer, follow these steps to add music:

  1. Open the BlackBerry smartphone drive.
  2. If necessary, double-click the Home folder.
  3. If necessary, double-click the User folder.
  4. Double-click the Music folder.
  5. Copy music files from your computer to this folder.

Synchronize music via BlackBerry Media Sync

With BlackBerry® Media Sync, you can easily sync playlists from your iTunes® or Windows Media Player music collections to your BlackBerry smartphone. Simply follow these steps.

  1. Make sure that you have the latest version of the BlackBerry® Desktop Manager. If you do not, download it here and install it.
  2. By installing the BlackBerry Desktop Manager you will have created a folder in your Start menu programs list called BlackBerry, containing a program called BlackBerry Media Sync. Run this program.
  3. Connect your BlackBerry smartphone to the PC via USB cable.
  4. You will now see the remaining space available on your BlackBerry smartphone. You will also see a list of available playlists on your computer. Simply click on the check box next to each playlist you would like to have on your smartphone and click the Sync button.
