Yahoo! Now Available with Advanced Mailbox Management for BlackBerry Users
Q&A with Yahoo! EVP Marco Boerries
Yahoo!® has always been a great way to stay connected with friends, family and colleagues. And now you can get
your Yahoo! Mail messages pushed automatically to your BlackBerry® smartphone. BlackBerry Connection® recently met
up with Marco Boerries, EVP of Connected Life, Yahoo! to discuss how this push-email capability is going to change
the lives of BlackBerry smartphone users.
BlackBerry Connection (B.C.): First off, how have customers reacted to getting 'push email' service for their Yahoo! account
on their BlackBerry smartphone?
Marco Boerries (M.B.): We have gotten extremely positive feedback from consumers. It is even greater than what we expected.
B.C.: How has the service changed their lives?
M.B.: Many consumers have told us that we have made it even easier for them to keep connected to their email and the information
that is important to them. We have also heard from users that they are taking full advantage of our new two-way synchronization feature.
B.C.: Why did Yahoo! decide to offer this feature to their users on BlackBerry smartphones?
M.B.: Consumers have made it very clear that they want to see their same current Yahoo! Mail inbox on every device, including
BlackBerry smartphones. With this in mind, delivering push email was critical to ensuring our consumers have the best possible
experience. We have enabled our users to save time and increase their productivity by incorporating two-way synchronization.
B.C.: Could you be more specific about these benefits?
M.B.: Of course! Two-way synchronization means there is no need for consumers to check or delete the
same email message twice, saving valuable time for Yahoo! Mail users. For example, when a Yahoo! Mail user deletes a message from
their BlackBerry smartphone, the message is also deleted from their Yahoo! Mail account, and vice-versa. Plus, when they read a
message, the message is marked 'read' in their Yahoo! Mail account across all access points. We are helping our users be more
productive both in the workplace and when they are on the move.
B.C.: Can AT&T Yahoo! Mail users also take full advantage of two-way synchronization?
M.B.: Yes, of course! The beauty of two-way synchronization is that all Yahoo! Mail users can take advantage of this time saving
e-mail management feature.
B.C.: Do you see any future opportunities for further collaboration between Yahoo! and RIM?
M.B.: Absolutely! We have a great working relationship with RIM and are always on the lookout for ways in which we can work together
to develop innovative and easy to use services for our Yahoo! - BlackBerry users. Just like we did with two-way synchronization.
B.C.: Thank you for taking the time from your busy schedule to meet with BlackBerry Connection.
M.B.: It's been a pleasure! I am always happy to talk to BlackBerry smartphone users.
How to Integrate Your Yahoo! Mail Account with Your BlackBerry Smartphone
By integrating your Yahoo!® Mail account with your BlackBerry® smartphone, you will be
able to take advantage of two-way synchronization. That means when you delete an email
message from your BlackBerry smartphone, it will also be deleted from your Yahoo! Mail
account and vice-versa. Plus, when you read a Yahoo! Mail message on your BlackBerry smartphone,
the message will be marked 'read' in your Yahoo! Mail account. Integrating your Yahoo! Mail
account is easy - and there's no extra fee!
To take advantage of two-way synchronization, follow these six easy steps:
- Make sure your smartphone is connected to the wireless network and you have already set up email on your BlackBerry smartphone;
- Go to the email set up site by clicking Email Setup from your home screen. Or by selecting "I want to create or add an email address"
in the setup wizard that automatically starts the first time you turn on your smartphone;
- Click Create New Account;
- Read and agree to the End User Agreement/Terms and Conditions;
- Enter a user name and password of your choice (so you can log-in when you use this email setup website in the future);
- Under Email Account Set Up, fill in the Yahoo! ID and Password for your Yahoo! Mail account.
It's that simple!
