Impact on the BlackBerry smartphone Calendar

  1. How are appointments on the BlackBerry® smartphone Calendar affected?
Appointments may be affected in one of the following ways:

    • Appointments may be displayed incorrectly (or not at all).
    • There may be duplicate Calendar entries.
    • Calendar entries may not synchronize with the email client when the BlackBerry smartphone is connected to BlackBerry® Desktop Manager.
  1. Which of my Calendar entries may be affected?
All Calendar entries created on the BlackBerry smartphone may be affected.

Causes of BlackBerry smartphone Calendar problems

  1. What are the possible causes for Calendar entries being displayed incorrectly?
The Calendar entries may not be displayed correctly because of one of the following reasons:

    • There are multiple compressed ICAL [CICAL] Service Records on the BlackBerry® smartphone.
    • BlackBerry smartphones use the BlackBerry® Enterprise Server and contain a BlackBerry® Internet Service [CICAL] service book on the BlackBerry smartphone.
    • Calendar entries are created on the BlackBerry smartphone and these may not synchronize with the email client during wired synchronization.
  1. What may cause duplicate Calendar entries on the BlackBerry smartphone?
Having multiple BlackBerry Internet Service [CICAL] service books may cause duplicate calendar entries if an appointment in a non-default calendar is modified.

Note: These duplicate Calendar entries will prevent a wired synchronization with BlackBerry® Desktop Manager.

For more information, see Knowledge Base article number KB13419.
  1. What may cause Calendar entries to not synchronize with the email client?
Calendar entries are saved to the base system calendar of a BlackBerry smartphone that is not activated on a BlackBerry® Enterprise Server. Entries in the base system calendar are only recognized by the Calendar application on the BlackBerry smartphone. Any external application will not recognize the Calendar entries.

Note: The Number of Entries field in the BlackBerry smartphone Calendar option shows the number of entries in the calendar on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. Because of the problem with wired synchronization, regardless of the number of Calendar entries on the BlackBerry smartphone, the value of the Number of Entries field in the Calendar options will always be 0.

Resolutions to Calendar problems for BlackBerry smartphones

  1. What kind of Calendar problems is the 2007 Calendar Patch designed to resolve?
The 2007 Calendar Patch may resolve the following issues:

    • Calendar reminders are not displayed.
    • Duplicate calendar entries caused by duplicate entries from a BlackBerry Internet Service integration.
    • Some synchronization issues.
  1. I do not receive calendar reminders on the BlackBerry smartphone, even though the reminder option is configured. What should I do?
Calendar reminders may not show due to the presence of multiple [CICAL] Service Records on the BlackBerry smartphone.

To resolve this issue or apply the workaround, see Knowledge Base article number KB13420.
  1. I am unable to synchronize my calendar due to duplicate entries from my BlackBerry Internet Service integration. What should I do?
The presence of multiple BlackBerry Internet Service [CICAL] service books can lead to duplicate calendar entries if an appointment in the non-default calendar is modified. These duplicate calendar entries will prevent a wired synchronization with BlackBerry® Desktop Manager.

To resolve this issue or apply the workaround, see Knowledge Base article number KB13419.
  1. I am unable to synchronize the calendar entries created on my BlackBerry smartphone to my email client using the wired synchronization method and checking the Number of Entries field (Calendar > Options) displays 0. What do I do?
All Calendar entries are saved to the base system calendar of a BlackBerry smartphone that is not activated on a BlackBerry® Enterprise Server. Entries in the base system calendar are only recognized by the Calendar application on the BlackBerry smartphone; therefore, any external application (backup and restore tool, Intellisync®, PocketMac® for BlackBerry® smartphones, etc.) will not recognize the Calendar entries.

To resolve this issue or apply the workaround, see Knowledge Base article number KB13330.
