CylancePROTECT Support on Legacy Operating Systems

For CylancePROTECT and Windows OS Environments

Legacy OS Support initiative provides continued support for CylancePROTECT deployed on selected Operating Systems deprecated by manufacturer.

The CylancePROTECT agent is supported by BlackBerry Technical Support team while deployed on Legacy operating systems. CylancePROTECT is not supported by BlackBerry Engineering team.

Depending on the Operating System, different versions of CylancePROTECT are supported.

This initiative allows for the continued support of a selected number of legacy operating systems, while simultaneously focusing on further modernization and innovation for the CylancePROTECT agent.

We will make every effort to provide update notifications on supported OS systems at least 12 months in advance.

FAQs

What is a legacy operating system (OS)?

A legacy OS is one that no longer receives support from the manufacturer.

CylancePROTECT installed on a legacy operating system does not receive product feature enhancements, bugfixes and security updates from the BlackBerry Engineering team.

The reasons for this are as follows:

·         Technological burden: These operating systems are old and no longer support the necessary framework or technologies that BlackBerry requires to continue improving and innovating the product.

·         Manufacturer Deprecation: The operating system is no longer supported by the manufacturer. This lack of support could expose serious security flaws or bugs that will not be addressed by the manufacturer.

(**) What does “Troubleshoot product issues with BlackBerry Product Support” mean?

If the CylancePROTECT agent is installed on a legacy operating system, BlackBerry Technical Support will engage in commercially reasonable efforts to provide a resolution or a workaround, but whether such resolution or workaround will be successful cannot be guaranteed.

(***) What does “Receive product bug fixes from BlackBerry Engineering” mean?

If the CylancePROTECT agent is installed on a fully supported operating system, BlackBerry Engineering provides bug fixes, product security updates and product feature enhancements for the CylancePROTECT agent.

What happens if I try to update XP, Vista, Windows 8, 2003 or 2008 to an agent version later than version 2.1.1568?

There are mechanisms in place for both the agent and Console that prevents the agent from updating to any version later than version 2.1.1568. This because CylancePROTECT 1570 and later requires .NET version 4.6.2 and this no longer available OS supported in 2.1.1564/2.1.1568 (XP, Vista, Windows 8, 2003 or 2008).

Is there a new system requirement for CylancePROTECT agent version 2.1.1570 and later?

Yes.

The new minimum Microsoft .NET Framework requirement is .NET Framework 4.6.2. BlackBerry recommends .NET Framework 4.0 and later.

Where can I find the list of Supported OS and CylancePROTECT version?
