What Is CLIC?
CLIC (Certifications for Leadership in Cybersecurity) is an intensive training and certification program designed to give you the skills you need to launch a career in cybersecurity or elevate your career with cybersecurity skills.
CLIC Malaysia is delivered through the BlackBerry Cybersecurity Center of Excellence and Rogers Cybersecure Catalyst at Toronto Metropolitan University, in partnership with the Government of Canada and the SANS Institute.
This rigorous cybersecurity training program offers you the opportunity to earn two globally-recognized SANS GIAC certifications (GFACT and GSEC), hone your skills in the Catalyst Cyber Range, gain career mentorship from leading cyber experts, as well as connect with major employers in the sector.
The program is open to anyone with an interest in cybersecurity and looking for a rewarding and challenging career.

What You Will Learn
Instruction from SANS towards certifications is delivered entirely online, either through live online classes or self-paced online learning through SANS on-demand courses. Students also receive instruction in the Catalyst Cyber Range, as well as training in communication skills, personal branding, career development, and cybersecurity ethics. Some of these sessions may be held in person.

Career Guidance and Alumni Network
As a CLIC student, you will have access to our dedicated Career Support team, which will provide you with career coaching. They will work with you throughout the program to choose a cybersecurity career path, build your resume, prepare for interviews, and get a job.
As an alumni, you will join a growing network of cybersecurity professionals and gain access to community networking events and career-building workshops.

- Complete the SANS Aptitude Assessment: You will be invited to take an online aptitude assessment designed to measure skills such as logic, critical thinking, problem-solving and fundamental computer knowledge.

FAQ — Program
What credentials will I receive after completing the program?
Upon successful completion, you will earn:
- Two (2) certifications from Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC):
- A Certificate of Completion from Rogers Cybersecure Catalyst*
*Important Note: This program does not give academic credits for a degree or certificate program at Toronto Metropolitan University.
Is the program online or in-person?
The program is fully online. There will be some optional in-person events in Cyberjaya and/or Kuala Lumpur.
Can I join this program while I work?
Yes, you can. However, the program schedule is intensive. You will need to commit approximately 25 hours a week to successfully complete the program and pass the certification exams.
Is the program delivered through live online classes or self-paced online learning?
Both. You will learn through a mix of live online sessions (where everyone learns together at the same time) and flexible, self-study materials (which you can access anytime).
What language is the program taught in?
This program is only offered in English.

Is this program for cybersecurity leaders or those who want to be leaders in the sector?
CLIC Malaysia is an entry-level cybersecurity program. It is designed to help you start a career in cybersecurity. It does not focus on leadership roles.
Is this program suitable for technical cybersecurity roles?
Yes. Our training is hands-on and technical. It prepares you for a successful career in most entry-level technical cybersecurity roles.
Who are the instructors?
All instructors are verified SANS instructors who are industry practitioners.
How long is the program?
The program takes 6 months to complete.
When does the program begin?
The next program starts in November 2025 and runs until May 2026. Career support and resources will be available after the formal program ends.
Is this a full-time or part-time program?
This is a part-time program. However, it is very intensive and fast-paced, requiring a minimum of 25 hours of study time per week.
Can I take only part of the program (e.g., complete only one certification)?
Generally, no. However, if you already have the GFACT certification, you may be considered for Advanced Entry into Phase 2 of CLIC. We review advanced entry requests individually. Please book a call with our Admissions Team to discuss.
Do you offer career support?
Yes. Our Career Support team will help you build your resume, prepare for interviews, and guide your job search. The program also includes many hands-on learning tasks, giving you practical skills employers want.

Application
How do I apply for the program?
There are three parts to the CLIC application process:
- Online Application: Complete and submit the online form, including a current resume. After you submit, we will send you an email with more details and deadlines for the next steps. Access the online application form.
- SANS Aptitude Assessment: You will be invited to take an online test consisting of 30 questions. This test measures your logic, critical thinking, problem-solving and basic computer knowledge.
- Personal Statement and Video Interview: You will be invited to record a video and submit a one-page Statement of Interest document. Your Statement of Interest should answer these questions:
- Why are you interested in cybersecurity and this Program?
- What education, experience, and skills do you have that will help you succeed in this program and your cybersecurity career?
- What are your career goals, and how will this program help you achieve them?
Important Note: You must complete all parts of the application process to be considered. We will not review incomplete applications.
Can I change my application after I submit it?
To make changes or to update your initial application, please email clicmalaysia@cybersecurecatalyst.ca. In your email, clearly state the changes you want to make.
How will my application be reviewed?
We review each application carefully. We consider all parts: your SANS Aptitude Assessment score, your Personal Statement of Interest, your resume, and your video interview.
How will the Admissions team communicate with me during the application process?
Email is the main communication channel. Please ensure that you check your email regularly.
Will I be notified if I am not selected to participate further in the application process?
Yes, all applicants will be contacted by email during the application process.
May I apply to the program more than once?
You may only apply once per intake. If your application is not successful, you may reapply for a future intake.
When will I learn if I am admitted to the program?
You will receive an admission decision within 30 days from completing your full application.
What if I am accepted but cannot start on the given date?
If you cannot start the program on the planned start date, we will cancel your admission. You may then apply for a future group (cohort). We do not offer deferrals (holding your spot for later).
Am I required to take the SANS Aptitude Assessment?
Yes, all applicants will need to take the assessment as part of the application process.
What types of questions are on the SANS Aptitude Assessment?
The test has 30 questions. It is designed to measure your skills in logic, critical thinking, problem-solving, and basic cybersecurity knowledge. Access a sample Assessment.
Do I get to see my score?
No, assessment results are not released.
Can I retake the assessment if I don’t pass?
Yes, we allow one retake.
I applied but haven’t heard back – what’s going on with my application?

Finances
What are the fees for the program?
The cost for the program is RM 3,100. (The usual cost of the program is approximately RM 50,000 but has been significantly reduced thanks to generous contributions from the Government of Canada, BlackBerry, and the SANS Institute).
Are there any extra costs for the program?
No. The program fee covers all materials and necessary fees to complete the program.
Important Note: The program fee covers one attempt at each certification exam. If you need to retake an exam, we will consider your work and participation in the program to date and consider your eligibility for an additional bursary.

Are there scholarships or financial assistance opportunities available?
Through generous contributions from the Government of Canada, the usual program cost of approximately RM 50,000 has been reduced to RM 3,100. BlackBerry and the SANS Institute have also generously provided support.
Can my employer pay for my CLIC program?
Yes, we encourage you to ask your current employer to invest in your cybersecurity journey. We have prepared a letter with all the details you need to present your case to them. You can copy all or part of the letter, or book a call with one of our advisors for advice on how to discuss this with your employer.
